I’m sure that you all remember these from grade school, right!? They are also referred to as Fortune Tellers. They are super easy to make, fun to play with, and they are fantastic additions to ALL types of parties! (Keep ‘em at a G rating or have some fun creating some XXX) I’ve created and sold quite a few of these sets in my Etsy shop! So, let’s get down to the nitty-gritty on how to put one together.
Take a piece of paper (8 ½ X 11) and fold the top right corner until it is flush with the left side of the paper. A small rectangular strip will remain at the bottom of the sheet. Cut that off.
You now should have a perfect square with one diagonal crease going across it. You are now going to put a diagonal crease in the other direction, which will result in a square paper with an “X” in the center of it. (From tip to tip on all sides)
Now, take your right corner and fold it up to the center of the “X” (where both diagonal creases meet). Repeat this step with each corner. You will be left with a smaller square.
NOTE: DO NOT overlap your newly made “triangles”
Flip your square over to the other side. Take each corner and fold down to the center like you did in the last step. Again, do not overlap.
This time, rather than creating a crease diagonally, you are going to fold your square in half (from both directions).
Flip it over once more to the other side and very carefully tuck 4 of your fingers below each of the raised triangles. Gently, pinch fingers together to form the 3 Dimensional Cootie Catcher.
All that’s left now is to decorate. Doodle, write prompts, have fun with it.
Well, there you have it…grammar school Fortune Tellers. Use them for parties, classroom lessons, or for some holiday fun. However you choose to use them, have a blast!
Did you make Cootie Catchers when you were a kid?
