Reflections of Christmas’ Past

With Christmas just days away, I have been reflecting on the days of old; when magic filled the air and excitement consumed me. I have tried on numerous occasions to recreate these special moments from my past for my little ones, but some things just cannot be replicated. Although they will have their own special memories to reflect on, they are worlds apart from my experiences.

Christmas Memories

In my childhood home, we had a white flock tree strung with SO many colorful lights, my daddy had to rig it to the wall to prevent it from toppling over. It was decorated with special “toy” ornaments from Hallmark (we got to choose a new one each year), and our Nativity scene was always close by. It was always such a special treat when I was allowed to play with the ceramic figures, my favorite being baby Jesus. We had a quilted tree skirt that (if memory serves) was covered with embroidered Christmas scenes that I loved pretending was a skirt. I would strap it on, throw our handmade stockings on my feet and prance around the living room pretending to be a ballerina. I loved how the skirt twirled around my legs! I was young, carefree, full of life, and had my whole life ahead of me. It was a simple life, and it was grand!

What special Christmas memories do YOU hold?

To be honest, my holidays now are calmer and more joyous than the ones I grew up with, with mom having untreated anxiety issues that she never admitted to and that she finally took medication for late in life. It ruined her relationships with her siblings and our cousins and holidays were fraught with problems. I’m hopefully creating great memories for my own children.

One of the best things about Christmas is the memories we created from childhood (or that our parents created for us). My memories now are of the Christmas traditions my guy and I created for our children, who are now continuing those with their kids!

    Krista,
    Happy Birthday On The 21st.
I have been afraid that I wouldn’t be able to get on here and wish you a Happy Birthday. Between a SLOW to On an Off Internet we have had days of it not being on.
It’s been impossible to post everything I want to . Then to make matters worst…WordPress has been acting up the last month. I can ONLY access it at certain times and only do so much with it. It seems to be working better right now. I got an email from them earlier stating they had worked on it again. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR. They should pay ME.
Anyway , I hope your special day is AWESOME.
Your Christmas Card has YET to be written. No excuse except I haven’t felt like writing.
So much for planning on getting them OUT on the FIRST.
Just in case, Our Internet goes out….Merry Christmas.
I will catch up ASAP. Love Sarah
